'Lend a Hand for Bhutan' Fundraiser
A big ‘thank you’ to all of you who supported our latest exciting Bhutan fundraiser held at Our Place in Willunga Hill, South Australia, on a beautiful, sunny Sunday 27th October 2013.
The word ‘supporters’ covers a wide-ranging group – those who attended, our sponsors, our volunteers and those who donated items for the silent auction and other supplies for the event. From the beginning with ASO members from Adelaide Music Agency playing some beautiful music to the Bhutanese dancers, followed by ballroom dancers from Dance Space Adelaide, and some great tunes played by The Rumour. It was an afternoon of fun and excitement!
"What a fantastic day and amazing food!" and "Great fun and energy!"
These were some of the comments that summed up the feelings of everyone who was there. Our special thanks go to the owners and operators of Our Place, the Clappis family and friends. They treated us all to some of the best home-style food, hospitality and service that you would find in any leading international outdoor event. The dishes coming out of the kitchen were delicious, seemingly unending and a great tribute to all who worked tirelessly in the kitchen.
The all-important purpose was to raise $20,000 for a nerve conduction/EMG unit for use in the Bhutan hospital in Thimphu. Bhutan does not have one of these machines and if we can provide one, it will allow the doctors to better diagnose and treat upper limb neurological conditions. Our fundraising goal was exceeded with a total net profit for charitable purposes expected to be in excess of $21,000 when the accounts are finalised.
The remainder of the monies collected and other further donations that we are receiving will cover the costs of training Dr Wangdi (Orthopaedic Surgeon), who we are sponsoring to come to Australia for a month in December to train on this equipment and further specialist surgical training. In the future, we also hope to sponsor a therapist to visit Adelaide for further training in hand and upper limb therapy assessment and treatment.
