The Helping Hands in Bhutan Fundraiser in January 2024 provided the funds for an educational trip to Bhutan for 2 weeks in November 2024.
Dr Nicola Massy-Westropp and Alison Taylor joined me on this educational journey. Nicola taught undergraduate nurses, physiotherapy technicians, physiotherapists, surgeons and registrars on anatomy, research, and helped several doctors to write up case studies.
Nicola teaches anatomy at UniSA and is an outstanding lecturer. Alison Taylor travelled from Texas to present her course on ‘Treating Without Pain’. Alison is an occupational therapist, certified hand therapist and Kinesio instructor.
Alison has presented her course/workshop over 55 times in USA and around the world. We were exceptionally fortunate that Alison taught her course to over 50 therapists in Bhutan.
Suzanne coordinated the trip and worked with local therapists, Tshering and Kinley, in the hand therapy clinic at JDWNR Hospital, which she established 13 years ago.
Dr Sonam Jamtsho, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, completed Bhutan’s first successful hand/arm replantation.
The highlight was certainly a wonderful audience with His Majesty the King of Bhutan.
